A Cherry-Tastic Cookie

While it's true that Whitney Bloom, the hero of my Very Cherry Mystery Series, bakes an incredible cherry pie, and cherry scones to die for, you might not know that she has a killer cherry cookie as well... not literally, of course. If you're a cherry fanatic like I am, this Very Cherry Chocolate Chunk Cookie is for you. It's a buttery treat combining tart cherries, virtually any variety of chocolate chips, pecans, and oatmeal. Another great thing about this cookie is that it's perfect with a hot cup of coffee, steaming pot of tea, or a good old fashioned cold glass of milk.

Being a delicious source of energy, I take plenty along when I hike. Also, they're just perfect to nibble on when curled up in a chair reading a good book. Of course, if you're reading any of my Very Cherry Mysteries, this cherry-tastic cookie will literally transport you to the Cherry Orchard Inn, making the experience all the more enjoyable. Okay, they won't "literally" transport you, they'll just make your taste buds believe you're there.

In all seriousness, I love this cookie. When working on the first novel of my new Beacon Bakeshop Mystery Series, I was trying to come up with some great cookie recipes for the book. Ironically, I kept hearing Whitney Bloom in my ear saying, "Cherry Chocolate Chunk Cookies! You need Lindsey Bakewell to make them at her bakeshop. Seriously, they'll be a hit."

I thought about it, realized that the Beacon Bakeshop resided near the cherry capital of the world (Traverse City, MI) and thought, what the heck? Thanks, Whitney!

I guess you could say that this humble cherry cookie has been shared across Lake Michigan, from one great baker to another. And now you can try it!

Oh, and here's a look at the fabulous new cover of my upcoming novel, Murder at the Beacon Bakeshop. What do you think?
